Zeke Wolf
New Zealand Potter
| "I started pottery 15
years ago making cups, plates etc and decorated domestic ware. I became
serous about it by making large decorative platters featuring a marine
theme (sealife). Worked my way through doing markets, pottery collections,
doing exhibitions (3 of them and all were highly successful) at Pots of
Ponsonby - even got into the (now) defunct Fletcher Awards once. I now
supply galleries and museum shops, where tourists are the chief clientele.
I use low fired commercial glazes. Concentrating on colour and design
with attention to detail, and it works." Zeke works in the traditional Japanese Raku pottery method, which involves a firing process using sawdust and a much lower heat than is normally associated with pottery production. Combined with Zekes use of rich colour and his beautiful designs, the result is a superb collection of platters, each one an original. Zeke's latest trees platters were inspired by a trip to the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain to see David Hockney's stunning huge colourful paintings of woodlands and forests. |
