I view my latest exhibition, titled 'Boundless' as a continuation in my development as a New Zealand contemporary artist. I am passionate about expressing my love of nature through my art and discovered this new style of painting challenging, yet immensely fulfilling. My influences came from the core of nature. I have chosen to take a natural form and rearrange it by abstracting out these subjects using freedom and fluidity. The intended result was to achieve unexpected, honest and open works. Paintings that you can look through and see beyond.

These works are large scale, acrylic pieces painted on unstretched linen and are intended to create a powerful presence.

This challenged and enabled me to literally get totally involved in the painting. Working on the floor whilst leaning into the work on all sides and at times standing 'in' the work fully emersed me and drew me physically and mentally closer to my work than ever before. I was free to use confident strokes, fast motions and painting off the edges of the linen. This made me contemplate, speed and movement often reflects the pace of our hectic lives. Working with such a free and open approach released the opportunity for new discoveries in the way the paint moved and mixed using vivid bursts of colour which resulted in such energetic art. I found the technique inspiring, keeping the process interesting and limitless for me.

This time I was continually pushing the boundaries enabling me to express my feelings rather than being controlled by a subject matter which I feel has resulted in a highly expressive exhibition. From here I intend to continue exploring and pushing the boundaries of paint, surfaces and colour even further. Ever extending and searching out new doors to open as an artist and to look through and beyond those doors to challenge and evolve my work and do what I love and that is to create in paint.

The inspiration for this exhibition is from nature which is so plentiful and thus my title 'Boundless'........
