| Mary's work can be described
as rich, meticulous, rhythmic and celebratory. Her work is always grounded in realism. Her etchings and paintings draw inspiration and subject matter from New Zealand's urban life, from its unique flora and fauna, landscape, seascape and pristine wilderness. Her etchings are a time-consumming and manual process following a traditional method of hand drawing on Zinc plates - acid etching and aqua-tinting or hand colouring. Each one is unique in it's own right and will vary from others in the edition. Mary is passionate about NZ native birds and flowers and plants such as the Kowhai flower, Rata, Nikau palm. Moreprok, Kereru (NZ woodpigeon) and Tui to name a few. |

Art by the sea gallery is a vibrant Auckland art gallery that specializes in fine and contemporary affordable New Zealand art.
